The Gavison-Medan covenant

The Gavison-Medan covenant was published in 2002 by Rabbi Yaakov Medan and Prof. Ruth Gavison. The covenant is an attempt to reach an understanding on the subject of the relations between religion and state which would be acceptable to all sectors of the public in Israel. This document is unique in that it lays out detailed suggestions for resolving conflict in many realms, including the Law of Return, Shabbat, marriage and divorce, burial, religious councils, and so on.
